DIY Nail Scrub and Stain Remover

My nail beds are long and I absolutely love polishing my nails -- just check my Intagram. The downside of always polishing my fingernails is yellowing  that does not go away with buffing alone. I use baking soda, lemon juice and a bit of hydrogen peroxide to reduce the yellowing of my nail and keep them looking healthy.

Here's What You'll Need:

  • 3 tablespoons of baking soda
  • Small  Glass Bowl
  • 1 Lemon
  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Nail Buffer
  • Cuticle/Nail Oil
  • Nail Polish Remover
  • Cotton Balls/Pads
  • Paper Towel
  • Hand Cream/Lotion

Prep Nails:

  • Remove polish from nails (if necessary)
  • Shape nails (I prefer a metal file for shaping) and trim cuticles (if ncessary)
  • Buff nails using the buffing side of a four way file such as this one from Sephora.

Mix and Apply:

  • Add baking soda to bowl
  • Squeeze the juice of about half of a lemon into the bowl
  • Add enough hydrogen peroxide to make it into a paste
  • Massage nails with mixture for about ten minutes
  • After 10 minutes rinse hands and nails
  • Dry hands with paper towel
  • Apply cuticle oil and massage into cuticles
  • Apply hand cream

Do this once per week to help to reduce/eliminate yellow nails. Lemon increases photo sensitivity so be sure to wash hands properly after soaking and apply a sunscreen if you are going outside.
